What belongs in this atlas.

The Atlas of Language is neither a dictionary of foreign terms nor a complete encyclopedia of linguistics. It maps figures of speech, expressive forms, and cultural forms of language that reveal what words do to thought, perception, and human interaction.

A term enters when it …

  • changes meaning through a recognizable linguistic form
  • directs attention, expectation, memory, or perspective
  • creates tension, ambiguity, condensation, displacement, or omission
  • has a culturally revealing use
  • reveals a distinctive movement of thought
  • opens crossways to perception, body, conversation, narrative, logic, knowledge, or resonance
  • can be experienced, shown, or traversed

Not a glossary

Technical system terms and interchangeable subclassifications do not become profiles merely because they exist. They remain explanatory layers, variants, cross-references, or background concepts.
